This indicator gives the price per choice beef carcass as reported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. For the Choice grade, the minimum degree of marbling required is a minimum amount for carcasses throughout the range of maturity permitted in the bullock class.

WHAT DR. ED SAYS:

This index relates to inflation and should be monitored in conjunction with the consumer price index and/or the core inflation index. Optimally, the price of this commodity should rise 2% each year to keep in step with inflation. Those financial institutions that have customers within the beef industry will find this index invaluable as price fluctuations will directly impact earnings of producers.
